Entry #11: The Final Relfection

Have you ever thought that you would ever be making a blog? I sure didn't, until I took English 102. You may think that it's stupid or useless but in reality it's actually kind of fun. I really enjoyed writing these blogs. Blogging can be used as a personal journal or a business journal. It's a great way to state one's opinion about any topic.
Creating a blog is almost like Facebook. Except your blogs are your status updates. Except everyone's blogs are not all about drama. You can read about other people's life stories. Do It Yourself recipes and holiday decorations. fashion tips. Political statements and opinions. While blogging it has also helped me improve on my writing. Yeah it may only be a couple paragraphs but it's better than writing nothing at all on a daily basis.

Although, I'd say that there were a few challenges to blogging. My first challenge was trying to figure out how to even start my first blog. Was it too childish? Is it too boring? Are the paragraphs too long? Once you have gotten over that obstacle the rest of your blogs will be easier to write. Sometimes I like to get off topic then what I was originally talking about. When writing a blog you have to make sure that your tone is consistent, you have a targeted audience and that your blog has structure.

But all in all, I think that blogging as an assignment for class was an excellent idea. It's a way to get to know other people as well without physically talking to them. In a less creepy and awkward way possible. It was a lot of fun in my experience and I really enjoyed. I could see myself creating a daily personal blog that goes along with my experience while attending AZ School of Massage Therapy. Maybe there would be a student who is interested in attending in the future and they stumble upon my blog, it'll be like their experiencing it from my point of view.

Entry #10: Sports Massage Therapy

Athletic Training -> Nursing -> Forensic Science -> Music Education -> Sports Massage Therapist. Yeaaaah, I guess you could say that I have changed my interest of majors quite a few times. But hey, at least I changed them while I was still in community college right? When I was younger I had  no idea what I wanted to be. Now that I'm all grown up I want to be a lot of things.

The Arizona School of Massage Therapy is where I have decided that I wanted to spend my year of 2016 at. I really love sports and having the ability to help relieve themselves from pain. So I thought, why not become a Sports Massage Therapist?

Sports massage plays an important part in the life of any athlete. Massage therapists have various opportunities to work with athletes from high school to the professional level. Students are taught additional techniques that include range of motion exercises, static stretching and cramp management to enhance athletic performance, prevent further injuries, and decrease the athlete's recovery time. Their works areas include health clubs, fitness centers, sports clinics, and even directly for athletic teams.

The AZ School of Massage Therapy also offers other classes like Therapeutic Massage, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Russian Sports Message, Trigger Point Therapy, Hydrotherapy, Clinical Practice, Acupressure, Shiatsu, Reflexology, Injury Message, Seated Message, and Structural Bodywork.

The school offers full time schedules which is 42 (10 months) weeks long. The part time is 62 weeks long (14.5 months). Tuition is pretty expensive, like $13,009.86 expensive. But not to worry, they do offer various scholarships and financial aid for those who are qualified. Once I have met with my career services advisor she explained that I would be pretty much living there from the mid morning to evenings. I mean what's life?

All I do is school, work and homework. But I am more than determined to graduate from this program and continue to accomplishing my dream of becoming a Sports Massage Therapist.

Entry #9: The new look on media

Facebook. Twitter. Instagram. Snapchat. Tumblr. Those are the words that come to my mind when I hear the word media. Those are all social media. Those are websites or apps that teenagers and adults use today to keep in contact with one another.
Okay, now what about a tv, art, music. Those are call medium, which is the singular word for media. To my understanding a medium is what transfers one message to another. An example of this is when an artist paints a painting they are showing a tragic event or feeling to their viewers. My professor also used an example with a lady who was known as the "ghost whisperer". She would transfer messages from the dead to the living. She was the medium.

Now when it comes to media I have realized how much advanced it has gotten and how manipulative it can be. Just because it's on the internet does not mean that it is true. A lot of rumors can be created on the media, and this highly impacts the more famous and well known celebrities and popular businesses. From one bad paparazzi photo to one terrible review of a restaurant a ton of other people can easily judge what they see. It is all based on what you believe and what information you know.

On the other hand, all media can be very addicting. From teenagers constantly tweeting and sending snapchats to adults blogging of their everyday lives to watching the daily news. I mean, what happened to reading a book? Buying a magazine or a newspaper?

Relating back to how the media controls what they put online, the news media has a huge advantage of this as well. When you hear a group of white people trying to start a riot the news state it as "protesting". If the racial group had changed to a group of african americans then the news would view it as "rioting". The news media can be very biased and racist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGJMgCn0fQs

Entry #8: You twerk, we mosh!

Moshing. What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear that word? Do you think injuries. Craziness?

Wanna know a funny fact about me? I actually love to mosh. Moshing at a concert for me is really fun to do. Usually when I would fall while in a mosh pit someone would help me back up then afterwards we would become friends. Although, there was this one time when I fractured my foot while moshing. Only injury I've had while attending a concert.

When people mosh it's like the music has possessed them and they have no control over their body. Thus explains the kicking, throwing of the arms, pushing everyone and jumping all over the place. Unless you're one of those other people who dance in the mosh pit and purposely punch other people because you think that it's fun. Those are the people that all moshers absolutely hate.
A lot of people may think that moshing is dangerous but it all depends on themselves. Surprisingly enough the mosh pit does have rules and everyone who goes to concerts know them. It's simple. Someone falls? Help them up. Someone looks like they weren't meant to be in the mosh pit and want to get out? Pull them out. Someone looks seriously injured? Get a group of people together and form a circle around them to let security know.
All in all, moshing is a fun thing to do when at a concert. It's another fun way to enjoy music and meet other new friends. Until next time, see you in the pit.

Entry #7: Dumb men or nah?

There are people out there who think that women are stupid and cannot think for themselves. All except this one person who has created a website for dumb men out there. But hey who knows? This website has multiple videos of men who are viewed as dumb, unmanly, and a loser. These videos also includes a description of what happens in the videos. Which is interesting. http://www.dumbmen.com/

It seems to appear that these videos are almost the exact same as how the media would portray women. Specifically for advertising. My question is, how does it work?

See, for women the way they sell products is clearly with their looks and boobs. I mean come on, what else? But for men? They have it so much easier, all they got to do is look and play dumb. Especially the one with the beer commercial. The commercial views the guy as a woman wearing a skirt simply because he ordered a lite beer. The video shows him as unmanly simply because of his choice of beer. Apparently a "real man" would order a Miller Lite. But all in all, I think these videos are pretty funny and some are quite clever because my dad can relate a few of them...I'm also really hoping that he doesn't read this blog.

Entry #6: Self-Generated

A topic of anything that I would like to talk about? Hmmm, well of course it's going to be about music! You know what is one thing that really bugs me about music? Other people get so judgmental about a person based on what they listen to or how they dress. Anyways, this bugs me a lot because it has happened to me several times since my sophomore year of high school. I've been called many names "emo, scene, metal head, goth" (even though they all have different meanings) and they think that I don't care about my education or that I don't know anything at all besides "worshiping Satan."
This picture pretty much explains it all.

Once a group project is assigned (especially in science and math classes) that is where I usually blow everyone's mind with my knowledge. As the school year progresses a few students would become friends with me just so I could tutor them and help them pass the class. Boom. The music that I listen to usually reflect on what I have experienced growing up. Music has always been there for me and helps me get through the day. Music helps me realize that I am not the only person who has the same problem, it also helps me to think that if the artist (or band) can get through this situation than so can I. Music has helped me get my emotions out.

A band named Suicide Silence has helped me conquer many life difficulties. A lot of people thought of them just as musicians who are so full of themselves and only care about drugs, alcohol, and girls. But they weren't...they were a group of 5 who were very caring, sweet, thoughtful and amazing. Their plan were to flip the stereotype upside down, to show the opposite of what people perceived them to be. Unfortunately, the lead singer has passed away in 2012 and has been unable to perceive their message to other people. Although, their music are still well known and legends never die.

Entry #5: ASU

Okay, we all know that most college students want to just hurry up and finish their schooling and get it over with. Well, now they have that option. ASU is now offering courses that take 7 1/2 weeks to complete, rather than the usual 15 weeks. Students could graduate within 3 years instead of 4. Of course, this would be easier for students who are working because then they won't have such a complicated work and school schedule. This idea has been on the rise since more students have been enrolling into online classes that are 7 weeks long. With the shorter courses offered the spring semester would have to start classes a week earlier than before, rather than starting in the middle of January.  On the other hand, if students were to choose this course they would have to keep up with their grades in order to maintain a good GPA. Then there are students who would prefer the traditional 15 week course simply because it would give them more time to complete assignments, rather than cramming 2 or more research projects into 2 or 3 weeks.

Entry #4: Self-Generated

The first United States weed resort. Now, does that sound like paradise to all you weed smokers? Well it is a plan in action.
The Santee Sioux tribe from South Dakota are planning on building a marijuana resort on their reservation.  The resort is designed to grow their own pot and sell them in a smoking lounge. Along with a nightclub, arcade room, bar and food restaurants, slot machines, and an outdoor music venue. "We want it to be an adult playground" states tribal President Anthony Reider. The tribe believe that it will bring in more money along with the casino, hotel, and head buffalo head ranch that are already highly successful. They calculated that the resort could bring in about $2 million per month.

$$$$$

There are very few complications to making this resort happen but Jonathon Hunt states that "This is not a fly-by-bight operation we want to show the state how clean, how efficient, how proficient, save and secure this is as an operation. We are not looking to do anything shady." With the hotel growing their own pot they have decided to start selling on December 31st at a New Year's Party. With the amount of money that this resort brings in they plan to use the money for community services, a decent monthly income for tribal members, support family homes, a senior living community, a clinic and a community center offering after school programs.

Do you think that this is a great idea? Comment your opinions below and let me know what you think!

Intro, yo!

Hey there, so first things first. My name is Charise Holiday but I prefer to go by Reecy. Im Native American (Navajo) from Rock Point, AZ. Part-time student at GCC, full-time employee at Carl's Jr, and part-time music teacher at Greenway High School. I'm just a 19 year old trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. I've changed my major from Athletic Training, to Nursing, Forensic Science and now Music Education.

Music. Music makes me see another point of view. Music says all the things that I wanted to say. Music inspires me. Music heals my wounds. Music keeps my heart beating. Need I say more about how music is important to me?

My main goal as of right now is to graduate from GCC with my AA degree and to transfer to ASU to continue my education. If ASU does not work out then hopefully, NAU will be kind enough to accept me. Another small goal I have when I attend ASU is to get accepted into the ASU Marching Band.
