Entry #6: Self-Generated

A topic of anything that I would like to talk about? Hmmm, well of course it's going to be about music! You know what is one thing that really bugs me about music? Other people get so judgmental about a person based on what they listen to or how they dress. Anyways, this bugs me a lot because it has happened to me several times since my sophomore year of high school. I've been called many names "emo, scene, metal head, goth" (even though they all have different meanings) and they think that I don't care about my education or that I don't know anything at all besides "worshiping Satan."
This picture pretty much explains it all.

Once a group project is assigned (especially in science and math classes) that is where I usually blow everyone's mind with my knowledge. As the school year progresses a few students would become friends with me just so I could tutor them and help them pass the class. Boom. The music that I listen to usually reflect on what I have experienced growing up. Music has always been there for me and helps me get through the day. Music helps me realize that I am not the only person who has the same problem, it also helps me to think that if the artist (or band) can get through this situation than so can I. Music has helped me get my emotions out.

A band named Suicide Silence has helped me conquer many life difficulties. A lot of people thought of them just as musicians who are so full of themselves and only care about drugs, alcohol, and girls. But they weren't...they were a group of 5 who were very caring, sweet, thoughtful and amazing. Their plan were to flip the stereotype upside down, to show the opposite of what people perceived them to be. Unfortunately, the lead singer has passed away in 2012 and has been unable to perceive their message to other people. Although, their music are still well known and legends never die.

Entry #5: ASU

Okay, we all know that most college students want to just hurry up and finish their schooling and get it over with. Well, now they have that option. ASU is now offering courses that take 7 1/2 weeks to complete, rather than the usual 15 weeks. Students could graduate within 3 years instead of 4. Of course, this would be easier for students who are working because then they won't have such a complicated work and school schedule. This idea has been on the rise since more students have been enrolling into online classes that are 7 weeks long. With the shorter courses offered the spring semester would have to start classes a week earlier than before, rather than starting in the middle of January.  On the other hand, if students were to choose this course they would have to keep up with their grades in order to maintain a good GPA. Then there are students who would prefer the traditional 15 week course simply because it would give them more time to complete assignments, rather than cramming 2 or more research projects into 2 or 3 weeks.

The first United States weed resort. Now, does that sound like paradise to all you weed smokers? Well it is a plan in action.
The Santee Sioux tribe from South Dakota are planning on building a marijuana resort on their reservation.  The resort is designed to grow their own pot and sell them in a smoking lounge. Along with a nightclub, arcade room, bar and food restaurants, slot machines, and an outdoor music venue. "We want it to be an adult playground" states tribal President Anthony Reider. The tribe believe that it will bring in more money along with the casino, hotel, and head buffalo head ranch that are already highly successful. They calculated that the resort could bring in about $2 million per month.

$$$$$

There are very few complications to making this resort happen but Jonathon Hunt states that "This is not a fly-by-bight operation we want to show the state how clean, how efficient, how proficient, save and secure this is as an operation. We are not looking to do anything shady." With the hotel growing their own pot they have decided to start selling on December 31st at a New Year's Party. With the amount of money that this resort brings in they plan to use the money for community services, a decent monthly income for tribal members, support family homes, a senior living community, a clinic and a community center offering after school programs.

Do you think that this is a great idea? Comment your opinions below and let me know what you think!

Intro, yo!

Hey there, so first things first. My name is Charise Holiday but I prefer to go by Reecy. Im Native American (Navajo) from Rock Point, AZ. Part-time student at GCC, full-time employee at Carl's Jr, and part-time music teacher at Greenway High School. I'm just a 19 year old trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. I've changed my major from Athletic Training, to Nursing, Forensic Science and now Music Education.

Music. Music makes me see another point of view. Music says all the things that I wanted to say. Music inspires me. Music heals my wounds. Music keeps my heart beating. Need I say more about how music is important to me?

My main goal as of right now is to graduate from GCC with my AA degree and to transfer to ASU to continue my education. If ASU does not work out then hopefully, NAU will be kind enough to accept me. Another small goal I have when I attend ASU is to get accepted into the ASU Marching Band.
